Trump Denies Calling Meghan Markle “Nasty” 🚫
In an interview with British newspaper The Sun, President Trump referred to Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle as “nasty.” The comment comes after an interview resurfaced in which Markle labeled Trump a misogynist and stated that she would move to Canada in the event of a Trump victory.
After garnering criticism from opposition on Twitter, Trump responded with a tweet stating “I never called Meghan Markle “nasty.” Made up by the Fake News Media, and they got caught cold!” This claim has resulted in further backlash against the President, as a recorded video of the alleged incident has been released. President Trump heads to Britain next week, where he will meet with the royal family.
The right continues to push the idea of fake news, claiming that this incident is the result of taking a quote out of context. However, in the case that Trump did, in fact, call the princess “nasty,” it is said that he is only defending himself from Markle’s comments in 2016.
The left is using Trump’s gaffe as an opportunity to shed light on his short temper that has reared its head throughout his time in office. Opinion pieces claim that Trump's response only proves Markle correct in her statements, showing him to be a misogynist. Left-leaning sources opine that Trump’s negative rhetoric is a misrepresentation of America at an international stage and harms foreign relations.
Where’s the common ground?
Given the nature of foreign affairs, both sides are hoping that this newsbreak does not harm US-UK affairs. It is being recognized that Trump’s upcoming visit to Britain is an especially important one, with the outcome of Brexit still to be determined.
