Hurricane Dorian Bombards Bahamas 🌀
Dorian is an intensely destructive hurricane
The storm formed on Aug. 23, growing into a hurricane on Aug. 28, and has resulted in at least five deaths so far. The first of these fatalities was reported to be an 8-year-old boy. Dorian has continued to pummel the Bahamas and at speeds of up to 150 mph and is expected to impact the US east coast soon.
Large storm of historic proportions
Dorian is tied for the most powerful hurricane to strike the Bahamas - on par with the intensity of a 1935 Labor Day hurricane. Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis announced Monday, "We are in the midst of a historic tragedy in parts of our northern Bahamas."
The right also highlights the intensity of Dorian. Right-leaning outlets also note that President Trump was open to, yet cautious, of timing a proposed evacuation of Florida over the weekend. This side suggests proper concern and precaution to its readers who might, due to the hurricane, be in harm’s way.
The left focuses more heavily on the Bahamian victims of the hurricane in addition to the US areas affected - drawing attention to the temporary closing of local attractions such as Legoland Florida and Disney World. Editorial commentary from the left sees fault in President Trump's lack of knowledge as to the potential extent and power of Dorian.
Where's the common ground?
Both sides are worried about Hurricane Dorian destroying lives. Additionally, in compromise to the dispute over Trump’s handling of the incident, it might be said that catastrophes like Dorian should be handled both with a degree of caution as well as in a timely manner.
