Human Impact On Climate Change 🏭
New report blames humans
Every four years, the US government releases the National Climate Assessment (NCA), a report that “analyzes the effects of global change" on the environment. This year’s report states, “it is extremely likely that human activities...are the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century. For the warming over the last century, there is no convincing alternative explanation...”
President Trump has called global warming a “hoax,” pulled the US out of the Paris Climate Agreement, removed regulations on the energy industry, and is rewritingObama’s Clean Power Plan on fuel emission standards, among other actions.
The left takes two primary approaches when covering this story. The first approach calls out how the White House report “contradicts” President Trump while focusing on the risks identified in the report. The second, more common and extreme approach, is to sensationalize the findings by linking the report to “killing thousands” in the future.
The right takes several approaches to this story. The most extreme is to contradict the report with experts while distancing Trump from the report by calling it a “White House report.” A second approach tries to find faults with the report calling out faulty ‘scenarios.’ The third, and minority approach, reports only the official report statements with little editorial commentary.
Where do we go from here?
Despite the new report, Trump is not likely to change his stance, which leaves the US in a tough spot. With record hurricane seasons, the deadliest forest fire in CA history, and sinking countries, the planet is clearly changing. Perhaps, we can all agree the planet is changing and at least help those people affected by our changing planet.
