Green New Deal...Or No Deal? 🌎
AOC and Ed Markey unveil climate change resolution
On Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) introduced the framework for a massive policy package aimed to combat climate-change: the Green New Deal. The non-binding resolution strives to completely eliminate U.S carbon emissions while simultaneously creating jobs and a universal health care program.
Criticism flows in
The lofty climate-change overhaul has been met with a surge of disapproval from the right, as well as some judgmental comments from Democrats who aren’t as progressive as AOC and her crew, like Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Many see the resolutions as impossible and dangerous, from an economic standpoint.
The left recognize that the Green New Deal is radical. However, they strongly highlight the fact that climate-change is a pervasive issue and that something must be done about it, even if the Green New Deal isn’t necessarily the right path.
The right paints the Green New Deal not only as radical, but as flat out ridiculous (arguing it would cost “trillions”). They especially focus attention on the section that calls for a gradual shift away from air travel. This side also points out Speaker Pelosi’s condescending comment, calling the deal the “green dream or whatever they call it.”
AOC in the news again
It seems like every time Rep. Ocasio-Cortez does anything, it stirs the media in a frenzy. The Green New Deal has caused this same phenomenon, but maybe on an even larger scale. Although AOC has made several beginner’s mistakessince entering Congress, she sure does know how to get attention.
Like her or not, AOC is confidence, personified
