Prominent Democrats targeted

Over the past 3 days, at least 6 explosive devices have been mailed to liberal politicians and donors including, President Obama, Hillary Clinton, George Soros, Eric Holder, Maxine Waters, and John Brennan. None of the bombs exploded. (Phew!)

Trump calls for unity

In an address from the White House yesterday, President Trump called the mailing of the bombs a “despicable act” and said the nation has to “unify” and condemn political violence.

LEANING LEFT:

Vox: Trump called for unity against political violence. He didn’t mention what he said last week.

The left views these attacks as a result of the divisive political environment created by President Trump and the Republicans. Articles point out that all of the intended recipients of these bombs are people Trump has attacked politically. They imply that he is, in part, responsible. The left also argues that Trump’s call for unity is absurd given his heightened rhetoric lately (e.g., praising a congressman who assaulted a journalist).

LEANING RIGHT:

IJR: After Attempted Bombings, Hillary Clinton Changes Her Tune on Calls for Political Civility

Townhall: Hillary Clinton Is The Last Person Who Should Open Their Mouth About The Recent String Of Bomb Scares

The right views these attacks as a result of divisive rhetoric from Democrats. Articles point to recent comments from prominent Democrats like Eric Holder (who said, “when they go low...we kick them”), Hillary Clinton (who said, “you cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy”), and others - implying the Democrats have, in some ways, incited this violence.

Who’s to blame for these bombs?

The unknown nutcase who sent these packages is to blame. Period. But, of course, the overall political climate is as divided as it’s ever been. The landscape is such that these terrible acts have become just another political football. If the question is who changed the politics and brought us to this place - then, I think we’d all have to admit that it’s the political age of Trump and he has changed the nature of the conversation.

Glitter mail - almost as bad as a bomb in the mail
